This is our next princess milestone photoshoot and possibly a favorite. Celebrating baby milestones has become a treasured tradition in our family. Each month brings a new opportunity to capture my niece’s precious growth and development. For her 4-month milestone, Sarah, her mom, and I, her Aunt, planned an enchanting photoshoot inspired by Princess Tiana from Disney’s”The Princess and the Frog.” With a beautifully coordinated outfit from Amazon and homemade props beignet, the stage is set for a magical photoshoot at the Huntington Library’s lilypad ponds. The photo shoot turned out to be a delightful and memorable experience.
The Planning and Preparation for a Princess Milestone Photoshoot
Firstly, Sarah has always had a flair for beautiful photoshoots, and I have a knack for DIY elements and planning to bring great ideas to life. Our ability to put our strengths together and give great attention to detail makes each milestone shoot special in so many ways. For this photoshoot, Sarah chose Princess Tiana as the inspiration. The character’s elegance, charm, and perseverance resonated with her, making it the perfect theme for her little princess.
The Outfit Fit for a Princess
Next, the outfit for the photo shoot was a charming Amazon find that perfectly captured the essence of Princess Tiana. It featured a lovely green dress with delicate lace and natural-looking detail. The dress has floral accents, reminiscent of Tiana’s iconic gown, but still manages to keep a realistic and original look. The dress stands out perfectly even though its green color matches many of the background colors. Just like in the Disney film, the dress captured the viewers’ attention despite the unique world around it.

A Princess Milestone Photoshoot with Handmade Props
I crafted a few props to enhance the photo shoot that added a touch of whimsy and magic to the scene. Using materials like paper and paint, I created a few of Tiana’s famous beignet deserts. These deserts play a significant role in the movie, so I knew adding them to the photos would be essential to selling the concept. Additionally, I painted a squishy toy frog to look more realistic for the baby to hold, which added a playful nod to the story of “The Princess and the Frog.”
One of my favorite pictures is the baby holding the toad with a concerned look on her face because it embodies the character’s attitude toward frogs.
Location is Key to this Shoot
The Huntington Library’s ponds provided a picturesque setting for the photoshoot. The tranquil water, lush greenery, and swamplike charm create a fairytale-like ambiance, perfect for our Princess Tiana theme. The natural beauty of the location, combined with our props and the baby’s adorable outfit, made for stunning photos that captured the magic of the moment.
Since it would be difficult to match the realistic nature of our other baby Princess milestone photoshoots as Princess and the Frog due to our California home, the Huntington Library creates the perfect backdrop for our project. There are locations in gardens around the nation set to be inspired by other places. Although I don’t think the Huntington Libarabies Lilypad Ponds are attempting to look like they are out of New Orleans, they do capture some of the essence.
The Photoshoot Experience
The day of the photoshoot was filled with excitement and anticipation. As we arrived at the Huntington Library, the sun was shining, casting a warm glow over the ponds. The baby was in a cheerful mood, adding to the overall positive energy of the day.
Please keep a few things in mind while doing your own baby milestone photoshoot:
- Be Patient. The little star doesn’t know what he or she is up to or how important it is. Make sure to treat any upset with kindness in this new, different situation.
- Comfort is Key- You can’t push to the next shot or pose if anyone is uncomfortable. It saves time to ensure all basic needs are met before trying to take pictures.
- Food makes for a Happy face! When the baby is well-fed and rested, you are much more likely to get a comfortable look.
- Have fun. Remember you set up or are trying to accomplish this photoshoot for memories. So let’s make looking back on the day feel as good as it should.
The Final Touches
After the photoshoot, Sarah and I reviewed the pictures and selected our favorites. We couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. The combination of Sarah’s planning, the adorable outfit, the handmade props, and the beautiful location created a series of photos that truly captured the magic of the moment.
